eduBITES is a German start-up that provides employees with small-sized pieces of content to improve their skills even during busy routines. The courses are built with qualified professionals and recorded and transcripted with the help of AI. They are offered to students with highly customizable UI. This project was designed mobile-first with a user-centric approach. I´ve worked at eduBITES from September 2021 to December 2022 as the main product designer.
Starting point
When I joined eduBITES, I was the first and only designer; the company was a young and ambitious start-up. eduBITES already had drafts for an MPV, but they needed more: a consistent visual identity and excellent user experience that considered the complexity of the product and user needs. I worked on the two main products, the app and responsive website, as well as the admin area (desktop only).
AI as an auxiliary to content creation
eduBITES used AI tools to expand the videos of professors into text transcriptions and translations in any language. After the first session with the professors recorded in the company´s studio, the following videos could be created with AI. Furthermore, the professor can choose to edit the content of his lecture and automatically create a new video without needing to record it again. As the UI designer, it was my role to think about how we present the content to the users.
The user is in control of how they consume content
On eduBITES, we wanted to give our users the freedom to consume their content how they wanted, to fit their busy routines, and to make corporate education fun and engaging rather than a tedious obligation. Video, Text, Audio Only, the user chooses how he watches the content. As the lead UI/UX designer, I´ve mapped potential user needs and created the whole user interface.
Optimized for the best on-the-go experience
As the lead UX designer, I´ve created the mobile-first user experience to prioritize our on-the-go users. I´ve also developed a roadmap for improvements that consider the employees who commute to work via car, bike, or public transport and have specific needs to be met. For example, car and bike users cannot consume content with video.
User testing
User testing is absolutely important to improve the experience of the product. As a UX designer, I´ve organized usability tests within the organization and created a roadmap for future tests with user groups.
Admin area
As a B2B company, eduBITES serves several clients with different requirements and needs. As the UX Designer, I tend to these needs both in the user UI and in the admin area. The admin area is a complex section of the product where the eduBITES employees and specific clients are able to upload content and manage access.
Landing Page
eduBITES also required an impressive landing page to communicate the main benefits of the application to clients and future users. I was also responsible for designing that showcase landing page.
Future steps
As a new startup, eduBITES needed to focus on a few features to launch a great MVP. But that didn´t stop us from thinking of features that could come in the future. As a designer, I helped the team visualize potential new features.
